Just spent 7 hours on a math problem because I was trying to do bad algebra where I should have been doing arithmetic!
It can be hard to describe sensations and feelings when you don't know the terms for them.

so while I was running a tool to decompile almost every single version of Minecraft up to 1.14.4, to turn into a Git repository, I found something interesting.
specifically in version 1.3 (which is a prerelease for 1.3.1, pretty confusing, I know) there were a bunch of unnamed classes just introduced by this version, and when I checked, I ended up finding something I never thought would have ended up in any version of Minecraft.
what I ended up finding was leftover code, some of which dates back to the earliest versions, just hiding, in plain sight.
now, usually unused code doesn't end up in any version, as they're stripped before release, well at least before sometime during 1.17's development, as they stopped removing unused code.
the unused code only appeared in this version, and no other version, which could be due to a configuration error in Proguard (tool used to obfuscate code and shrink file size). now what gets interesting is when you look into the code that was just left over.
what I and others have found were a biome map (the same one used in a PCGamer article about the upcoming release of Alpha 1.2, and a tweet by Notch teasing the new biome system in Beta 1.8), a leftover potion testing tool from Beta 1.9 development, several developer tools (terrain generation profiler, .lang file generator, entity model texture generator), panorama screenshot taking code, and the prototype villages that were teased at one point during Beta 1.8's development.
just so you know, this is a publicly released version. and it's unlikely that anyone else had discovered this, which means this has been hidden in plain sight for ALMOST 13 YEARS after the release of 1.3, and there is probably still more to discover.

Using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers gives me so many GL errors and freezes on my computer whenever I use Wayland (kwin and mutter) but works fine on X11, so I guess I'll use X11 for now. I've tried getting NVIDIA and Wayland to work nice for a while, but they just don't seem to mesh.
